Our Tasting Party...

For our sense of taste we had a tasting party today! The students tried puffcorn, skittles, and sour patch kids. They closed their eyes as they took a bite, and then decided if it was salty, sour, or sweet. They had a great time, and they all agreed the sour patch kids were their favorite! Check out some of our sour faces. :)

Ezra and Deacon enjoyed the skittles too!

Our Five Senses

As part of our five senses unit we have been doing some very fun activities! We have even learned a new song about our five senses. For our sense of sight, the students colored an eye the color of their own, and then we graphed them to see who had green, blue, or brown eyes. Brown was the winner!

For our sense of touch, the students reached into paper bags to feel what was inside. They described the items using scratchy, hard, soft, itchy, gooey, and so on. They had a great time trying to find out what was inside by just touching!

Tomorrow we look forward to our tasting party!!

November 26-30

This week our theme is The Five Senses. We will be doing many activities to explore each sense. I am sending home a few important notes today with your child; please be sure to check their folders! In their folder is a sign-up for conferences. Please get that back to me as soon as possible because conferences are already next week. I would like to be able to make a schedule that accommodates everyone as best as possible!

Five Fat Turkeys...

To go along with our turkey theme, the children colored five fat turkeys. Each turkey has a number on its belly, 1-5. After coloring their turkey they cut them out. I am sending these home with a note that explains many math concepts we have been working on that you can help with at home! Have fun with this family activity!

They were able to use new crayons today, and colored so nicely!

Lillian's beautiful work.

Working on their cutting!

Name Turkeys

Today, the students were given paper feathers that had a letter of their name on each one. The letters were all mixed up, and they had to put the letters in the correct order of their name. I helped them glue their feathers on their turkey. They did such a wonderful job! Check them out! :)

They were working hard to put their letters in order!

 Their finished project!

C is for Crab

This week for Jolly Phonics we are learning the /k/ sound. They have learned that that sound can make a word have a C or K at the beginning, such as crab or kite. For our craft, we did C is for crab.

They were working so hard on carefully cutting out their C and "pinchers".

They were proud they successfully cut out the "pinchers".

 Below is the finished product!

Owls

The students worked really hard on making their owls! They had to do a lot of cutting, including making their own circles for the eyes and feet. They did a really great job. Check them out!

November 12-16

This week our theme is turkeys. We have explored a Clifford magazine all about Thanksgiving, painted Indian corn, and colored our very own turkeys. We have also enjoyed a few Thanksgiving stories such as Arthur's Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Mice. I have many more activities planned such as counting turkeys, and placing turkeys in a book using position words such as above, below, on top of, and beside.

Below the students are painting their Indian Corn. It was their first time using watercolor paints at school and they did a great job!

A few examples of their awesome coloring on their turkeys!

Food 4 Thought

Today for Food 4 Thought we learned about Pumpkins! The students were able to try roasted pumpkin seeds and pumpkin soup. We had some mixed feelings on whether we liked it or not. All of the students received a t-shirt as well; they were so excited! I have attached the Food 4 Thought link for today as well as a few pictures. Enjoy!

N is for Noodle

As part of our Jolly Phonics program, we have been talking about the N sound this week. The students were given noodles to sort, and then later made a pattern with their noodles on the letter N they cut out all by themselves. They did such a great job! Check out the pictures!
