O is for Octopus

For our Jolly Phonics sound this week we are talking about the short O sound. The students made an octopus today. They cut out their O and used paint markers to decorate it. They taped on their tentacles with a little help and then glued on their eyes. They turned out so cute! Check them out.

Learning Centers

Today for centers, we did a variety of things. The students played a matching game as part of our Everyday Math lesson, where they matched different shapes- triangles, rectangles, squares and circles.
The students also cut out four pieces with a part of a snowman on each piece. They put them in the correct order of how you make a snowman.
With me, the students worked on one to one correspondence by having a plastic bag with a number on it and then they had to put that many counters in the bag. They worked so nicely and did a great job! Check out some of the pictures of them working so hard!

Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week

Check out the link below! Thank you to the crossing guards for all you do- you are very much appreciated!

G is for Guitar

Jolly Phonics: /g/ sound

This week as part of our Jolly Phonics lesson, the kids made a guitar. They cut out all their pieces and glued them onto a black piece of construction paper to make their guitar. I assisted the students with taping on their pipe cleaners for their strings. This project helps the students to identify the letter name of the letter G as well as put the sound with the letter- G is for Guitar! These projects are always so much fun for them, and it is great to see them make the connection!

January 14-18

Theme: Winter/Snowmen

This week we will continue our Winter theme. I have prepared  several fun booklets, and projects. We will be reading the story The Mitten by Jan Brett as well as The Jacket I Wear in the Snow by Shirley Neitzel and doing fun projects along with them.
Jolly Phonics this week is the /g/ sound. We are going to make a guitar out of the letter G.

I am sending book orders home today, and they will be due back Monday, January 21st.

I was welcomed back today by several hugs and "I missed you." I had a wonderful trip with my family! I shared my pictures with the kids, and also a fun Hawaiian story about Limu the turtle.

Next Week

January 7-11

Our theme will be Winter/Polar Animals. The students will be learning all about the animals that live in the Arctic. There are a lot of fun projects planned, and I hope they all have a great week. Also, next week is our penny wars, I explained them to the students today and they are all pretty excited about that. If you can send them in next week, then they will get to put them in our 4K jug in the library! :) I will be gone on vacation, so remember if you need assistance or have a change in pick-up please call the office and talk to one of the secretaries- 326-3719 or 326-3720. I am very excited for my trip to Hawaii with my family, and I will be back to school on Monday, January 14th! Have a great weekend!

School Safety

Penny Wars January 7-11

Dear Parents,
In an effort to raise some money for a memorial fund for the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School, BAK and Bluff View will be participating in Penny Wars. If you would like to contribute, please send loose change to school with your child. The penny wars will only last one week (Monday, Jan 7- Friday, Jan. 11). The class jar with the most money by next Friday is considered the winner. So clean out the car, dig under the couch cushions,   and shake those piggy banks.  A little change can change a lot!
