We Made Butter!

Today, the students made butter! We poured whipping cream into small containers and they each had a turn to shake it up. They enjoyed it, and were very surprised at how it changed. They even got to try some on bread!

Gabriel was shaking up the whipping cream!

Most of the students enjoyed the butter on bread!

Take Care of our Earth!

Yesterday, we talked about what Earth Day means, and how we can protect our Earth. We also read a Clifford reader on how to not be a litterbug! The students made a mobile that said Take Care of our Earth, and had pictures of a tree, bird, fish, the Earth, and a sun & cloud.

Farm to School- Honey!

Today, as part of Farm to School we got to learn all about bees and how they make their honey. It was very neat, and the students really enjoyed eating honey popcorn! We even got to see what a beekeeper would wear to protect them from getting stung, and also where they keep the bees so they can make their honey.

She was showing us the difference between honeybees and wasps.

They got to hold and smell the beeswax.

She showed us where they would keep the bees.

She also showed us what they wear to protect them from getting stung.

They all enjoyed it! :)

If I were a dinosaur...

We have been talking a lot about dinosaurs the last few weeks, and for this project the students were able to choose a dinosaur they would like to be. They were able to choose from T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, Pteranodon, Brontosaurus, and Ankylosaurus. The students colored their dinosaur however they wanted, then cut it out and glued it on their green sheet of paper. On the green sheet they wrote the name of the dinosaur they chose. Check out some of their great work!

Qu is for Queen

This week we are finishing up our last Jolly Phonics sound! Today, the students made queens to represent our Qu sound. They colored their Q and crown, and made the smile into a U. They also practiced writing the word queen.

Taking Surveys

As part of our Everyday Math curriculum we talked about taking surveys. The students answered a few questions by writing their name, or putting an X under the appropriate answer. The students were able to count the results and compare the data to see which was a more popular answer. I gave them a question first, and then I let the students come up with a few of their own. Here are a few examples.

My question for them to answer, it was a pretty close race.

Westin's question, all the girls said no and the boys said yes.

Lillian's question; we all agreed that we like bucket fillers, not bucket dippers!

Kaileigh's question; she was thinking about spring!
