Sponge Paint Butterflies

This week our theme is bugs. Today, we talked a little about symmetry, and how a butterfly's wings are a reflection of each other. The students then used sponges to paint one side of their butterfly, and when they finished they closed it. When they opened it they saw their butterfly painted now on both sides; they thought it was pretty neat!

Number Caterpillars!

This week we have been working on our number caterpillars. The students colored all of their circles 1-10 as well as their caterpillar's head. Today, we worked on putting the caterpillars together. It was great practice on their number recognition as well as putting numbers in order.

Matching Uppercase and Lowercase Letters & Spelling Pond Words

The students also spent some time today matching uppercase and lowercase letters to make an animal they would see at a pond. They used alphabet pieces to match letters and spell the name of an animal at the pond as well. They had words such as turtle, otter, snail, and fish and the picture to go with it.

Turtles

This week we have been talking about animals we might see in a pond or the river. We made a turtle! The students painted a paper plate green for the shell, and then added a head, tail, and four legs to finish the project. They turned out very cute!

Farm to School: Asparagus

Today, at Farm to School we learned how asparagus grows, and even listened to a farmer talk about his farm where he grows it! We learned that there is both green and purple. The students tried raw and cooked asparagus; it was a first time for many!

Most of us really enjoyed it!

Westin wasn't so sure about it, but he still took a taste!

A few didn't like it; but we were reminded to just take a polite bite and not do a thumbs down!

Lillian, Wyatt, and Bailee loved it; they wanted more!
